UTM Homecoming

On Saturday, we headed to Martin to celebrate UTM's Homecoming. It was a cold, dreary day, but you would have never known it with the crowd that was there. There have been so many changes take place since we went to school there, but we agreed that they were all wonderful changes. These pictures are out of order since I took one camera to the pre-game festivities, and my smaller one to the game. I uploaded them out of order, so we'll start with the game and the changes that we documented.

We were bundled up and even had a blanket, but we still nearly froze out there. One major change that immediately caught our attention was the the tailgating going on before the game. I'm sure the crowd was down due to the weather, but there were still plenty of grillers. I think that would be so much fun to do. When we pulled up, my little redneck boy said, "I fink I smell something like pork chops out here."
The cheerleaders were wonderful, but they did not include guys, like they did "back in the day." Lee might have liked watching them more than the game.
The Skyhawks scored touchdowns! I hear they even win some games now, even though that did not happen while we were there. It use to never happen.
The band was huge and fantastic. I don't think the band had numbers like this during my days at UTM. Of course, I didn't frequent many football games back then to really attest to the bands' status...remember that lack of winning I mentioned earlier?

A lack of crowd support was certainly not the case today. The stands were packed, kids were standing around the fence, and they were scattered along the hill to watch. I was so impressed with the number of students there. The student section is now located on the home side, and it was full. They really participated in the game too. Another major change I noticed is that none of the students were dressed up for the game. Everyone was in their casual attire and hanging out with their friends. It didn't appear that they were with dates. And the stands did not clear out after the halftime announcements like they did when we were there.

A good time was had by all, even though this cutie didn't catch a football thrown from the cheerleaders. He kept his hands up just in case they came back. They didn't.
Our favorite change that UTM has made in recent years is the addition of Quad City before the Homecoming game. Student clubs, organizations, fraternities and sororities set up tents throughout the quad with games, activities, food, and entertainment. We have such a good time walking through and checking it all out. Lee's favorite booth was the ag students' petting zoo.

Here he is introducing himself to the camel. Matt told him the camel's name was Joe, so he kept calling him. "Hey Joe! Come over here! Joooooeeeee, come and see me now!" You get the picture.
He was warming up to him and started petting him while he munched some grass.

Joe wasn't so sure about the petting. He was only interested in food, which I was scared would be Lee's little hand.

Lee got the idea to pick some grass and feed it to Joe.
He kept waving it in the air yelling, "I've got grass for you, Joe. Over here Joe!" Of course, there were dozens of other people trying to pet and feed Joe at the same time.
Finally, Joe noticed that Lee had grass in his hand and came over and ate it.
Lee was THRILLED.

Then we moved on to the animals in a corral that the kids could get into with them. Lee thought this was hilarious.
See?
He wanted to hold this bunny so badly. Thank goodness he wasn't allowed to. I can just imagine all the children chasing and tormenting this helpless rabbit. It was a very fun day, and we can't wait to go back next year with Eloise!

Old Friends are Best.

Lee got this little stuffed fireman when he was around 2. At the time, his very favorite movie was "Elmo Visits the Firehouse." He watched it all the time, and there was a character on there named Alan. So that's what he named his fireman. Alan has travelled many miles with us and has often been the chosen "friend" to cuddle with at bedtime. Even though he has gotten many new toys since Alan, he will still chose him over the others. Tonight, I thought he looked so sweet with Alan cuddled up to his cheek.

A Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Lee has been anxiously awaiting the time for us to buy our pumpkins for carving. A friend recently recommended a pumpkin patch not far from our house, so we went to check it out today. The full operation was not open today, but Lee was thrilled to get our pumpkins. He didn't realize there was more to do there, so he'll be surprised when we go back next week for the hayride and games.
His first choice was a pumpkin for Eloise. The owner asked who Eloise was, and he told her she is his baby sister. I didn't bother explaining that Eloise is in utero or the fact that we don't know if it's a brother or sister yet.
Next, he chose a pumpkin for himself. He has already made big plans for carving it. He also picked out pumpkins to represent Matt and me. He chose an enormous one for Matt, and then said, "We'll get this tall, skinny one for you, Mom." Why thank you, Lee. And yes, you may have candy corn for supper.
He insisted on hauling them to the car himself, even though the owner offered her wagon for him to pull them.
It was a heavy haul!
This pumpkin was labeled "The Giant."
They also had beautiful mums and decorations.
Can you find Lee in this picture?

Pure Exhaustion!

Today was my first day to volunteer at Lee's preschool. I knew in advance that the state inspector would be there, so I was ready to be busy. I don't think I could have been truly prepared for how busy 26 4 year olds would keep me! They were very good, but it was 3 1/2 hours of non-stop shoe tying, potty breaks, nose wipes, comforting, encouraging, reading, painting, moon sand playing, hand washing, leaf making, snack eating busyness. There were 4 adults working, and it took every one of us to keep things moving. I was nervous since it was my first day and with the inspector being there. I am going back on Friday and am looking forward to being more relaxed then. Lee was perfect and didn't mind sharing me with his friends at all. I have always joked about his "non-performing" and worried that his teachers would tell me that he needs to learn his colors when he goes to Kindergarten. If he doesn't want to share information, he is just not going to. I have been worried for no reason. He definitely showed his skills and knowledge at school today. I could tell by the teachers' reaction to him that he is a good student. He wasn't shy at all. I was very, very proud.

I was looking forward to coming home and resting with Lee for the afternoon, but thanks to the coward who hit my car and didn't bother to stop, I have spent my afternoon with insurance adjusters and police officers! I'm more than a little aggravated to have to file my very first insurance claim for damage that I did not cause. After filing the police reports, insurance claim reports, being interviewed by the adjusters, and getting an estimate, I'm finally home for an hour before I'm off to teach 17 3 year olds in choir. I am pretty sure it will be a close race to see who crashes first tonight. Normally Lee is the one who crashes at 8:00, but I think I will give him some competition tonight!

My friend, Carla, recently posted a sleeping picture of her little boy, and it reminded me that I haven't taken a sleeping picture of my sweet boy lately. We got a body pillow to put by the wall, because he kept cuddling up to the wall. I couldn't stand the thought of him being by that cold wall all winter.

Preschool Humor

Lee has been in preschool for a month now and loves it more every single day. He literally starts talking in the car when I pick him up and doesn't slow down until we get home. He wants to tell me everything. This is so far from any experience we've ever had, and I realize it could end any moment. So for now, I am soaking it all in and enjoying every minute of his details.

They have a class gerbil named Peter. The children bring paper towel rolls to give to him, and according to Lee, he just chews them up and spits them out in his cage. Yesterday, he told me a hilarious story about Mrs. Angie coming in one morning to find that Peter had escaped his cage and was hanging out in the toys. Then he told me that Mrs. Angie had taken Peter home over the weekend to clean out his cage, so he would have room to make a nest for his babies. Hmm...there are 2 problems with this story. First, Peter is a boy (supposedly), and second, Peter lives in a cage alone. When I asked Lee who told him that Peter was having babies, he said that's what Mrs. Angie told them. I'm volunteering tomorrow, so I'll be sure to get the rest of the story.

Today on the way home, Lee was telling me about the Bible Story and asked me if I knew that God made each of us to be Satans. After asking him to repeat himself, I stifled my laughter and said, "Do you think Mrs. Angie said that God made us to be saints?" He giggled, and said, "Oh yeah."

Hello 2nd Trimester!

This week is not a huge week for Eloise. It is growing hair all over its body, including eyebrows and hair on its head. Of course, most of you know that babies born with any hair in my family is rare. We love our bald babies! Lee didn't get enough hair to really notice until he was around 5 months old. In his 6 month pictures, he just mainly had fuzz. I didn't have much hair until I was 2. Back to Eloise...he/she is forming fingerprints and toe prints this week. It is 3 1/2 inches long, weighs an ounce and is the size of a lemon. I couldn't find a real lemon that fit the measurements, so I had to settle for lemon juice.

Picnic in the Park

After preschool today, we met some friends at the park for a picnic and playtime. The weather was perfect, and the kids had a wonderful time.
Lee was excited to get to wear his new Halloween shirt to school today.
I know I've posted about this little daredevil's tricks before, but today was a new high for her. She climbed to the top of the baby playset by herself, crawled over to the slide, and....
...tried to slide down on her tummy.
She did this over and over.
After her mommy put her on her bottom, she slid down with success! She has no fear!
Sometimes her antics got her into trouble, and she would have to be rescued.

Then she would head off to find more fun.
I told Subo that this was not her best judgement call. Lee and Hope loved it, but it sure made this mommy nervous!
Then the boys hid from the girls.
These preschoolers had a big day together and finished off their fun with a snack.
